One of the real drawbacks in funding projects and companies has always been the lack of direct solicitation. Advertising for investors has never be allowed, up until this new provision was adopted by the SEC. The new ruling is part of the SEC JOBS Act, a law designed to make it easier for startups and small businesses to raise capital from a wide range of potential investors.
